SUSPENSION OF CHURCH ACTIVITIES

Dear Church Family,

As you know from yesterday's News from the Pews announcements, we've been very busy staying ahead of the spread of the dangerous Coronavirus across Long Island and the rest of the world. Still, as the news continued to develop today it became clear to me that we needed to still do more to support the social isolation that is required to protect our congregation and the rest of the community.

This afternoon, I convened an online dialogue with Session about this issue. The Session decided to suspend all public church activities effectively immediately, through at least March 29. Session will reevaluate if the suspension should be lifted after that date or continued. This means there will be no worship services, meetings, education, youth group, fellowship events, etc. I will broadcast via Facebook live from the church Facebook page at our usual worship time, 10:00 a.m., on March 15, 22, and 29, with prayers, scripture readings, and a sermon. We will then also post the recording on our website and Facebook page. It's important for us to continue worshiping together, even from the safety of our own homes.

This was not an easy call to make. As Christians we are called to come together to praise God in the name of Jesus Christ. At the same time, Christ gives us a very strong example of protecting the health and well being of everyone in our community. He especially went out of his way to protect and heal those who are the most vulnerable. That is the goal of our suspension of activities. Every Christian, and every American, has a responsibility to do everything in our power to help stop the spread of this pandemic.

Please feel free to contact me with your questions and concerns. The church office will continue to be open during this time. In the meantime, please avoid crowds, wash your hands often, and stay home if you don't feel well!

May God Bless You and Keep You,

Pastor Scot
