Christmas Families – Minute for Mission

ARE you aware of how many families with children in our local schools are living on such a thin margin that the luxury of a Christmas present is beyond them? In a sense, these children’s faces are pressed up against the glass. They can see what other children have but it’s NOT for them. The pain this must cause their parents.

We can’t answer all of the world’s problems but we can help in our town of East Hampton. With other local community organizations, we can help families in a quiet way. It’s anonymous. There are no thank you letters. But what a glow you get when you give a gift to a Christmas Family. Isn’t that what Christmas is about? It’s a reminder of the gifts brought to the Christ child and of God’s gift to the world of his son. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Luke 12:24)

As we have done in the past, we are asking our church family, to donate gift cards. They can be Visa or Mastercards or from specific merchants such as TJMaxx, Big K, Target or Walmart to name a few. Get the cards in denominations of $25, $50 or $100. Or you can write a check for the Mission Committee to purchase gift cards for you. We hope to provide Christmas for five families. The Mission Committee will also give $100 gift cards to Stop N Shop to each family so that the whole family can share a Christmas feast. If you write a check, make it out to First Presbyterian Church with Christmas families in the memo. The cards will be distributed among the families by the high school social worker.

The deadline to get the cards in is

Sunday, December 11th

You can place your gift cards and checks in the offering box anytime up to December 11. Or you can drop them off in the office. Thank you for being a part of this mission.

May God bless you always!
